Clearswift Information Governance Server (IGS) Client Application ReadMe

The Clearswift IGS Client Application allows users to register and classify confidential material on the IG Server from their Windows desktops.

New Features

You can now:

• Register all files in a folder (including files in sub-folders).
• Run the IGS Client Application from the command line, enabling you to integrate the client into existing workflows.

Before you install the IGS Client Application

The machine you want to install the IGS Client Application on must have Windows 7 or above installed. It also requires Microsoft .NET Framework v4.5. This is automatically installed when you carry out an individual installation of the IGS Client Application. For information on what happens when installing using group policy, see below.

You must also have:

• Administrator privileges on the machine you are installing an IGS Client Application on.
• Added the IGS Client Application host address to the Client Application Access settings on the IG Server. See Configure IGS for Client Application access below for more information.
• The Client Application access token.

Installing the IGS Client Application

The following files are required for IGS Client Application installation:

• igs-client-setup-x.exe for an individual installation, where x is the version number of the IGS Client Application.

• If you are installing using group policy (GPO), you need to use igs-client-configurator.vbs to update igs-client-x.msi, where x indicates either the 32-bit or 64-bit version of the igs-client .msi package. The Administrator will need to patch both of these .msi packages before deploying them through GPO. See Install using group policy? below for details.
• NDP452-KB2901907-x86-x64-AllOS-ENU.exe installs Microsoft .NET 4.5 Framework.

You can access these files from http://download.clearswift.net/Products/IGClient/133/IG133.zip.

How do I...

• Configure IGS for IGS Client Application access?

  Before installing an IGS Client Application, you need to define the IGS Client Application hosts that will communicate with the IGS. To do so:

  1. From the IG Server Home page, click System > Security > Client Application Access.

     Client Application access options are displayed.

  2. Click Edit.

  3. Select the Enable Client Application access check box, and type the IP address or subnet (using CIDR format) of the machine(s) you want to install an IGS Client Application on.

     Take note of the Client Application access token as you will need it later when installing the IGS Client Application.

  4. Click Save.

• Install individually?

  1. Run igs-client-setup-x.exe on the machine you are installing an IGS Client Application on and click Settings.

  2. Enter the following details on the Setup Settings page:

     • The folder you want to install the IGS Client Application software into
     • The IP address of your IG Server
     • The Client Application access token.

     Click OK.

  3. Click Install to begin the setup process.
  4. After the setup process completes and the software is installed, you can start the IGS Client Application from either the desktop icon or shortcut menu on your desktop or Windows Explorer.
• Install using group policy?

  1. Download and extract the IGS Client Application archive to a local directory.

  2. If you do not already have it installed, you need to install the .NET Framework v4.5 package NDP452-KB2901907-x86-x64-AllOS-ENU.exe or later on all machines you plan to install the IGS Client Application on.

  3. Open the Command Prompt window and navigate to the local directory that you extracted the IGS Client Application archive to in step 1.

  4. Run the following command to patch the IG Server host address and Client Application access token in both 32-bit and 64-bit installer files:

     igs-client-configurator.vbs igs-client-x86.msi <IG Server Host Address> <Client Application Access Token>

     igs-client-configurator.vbs igs-client-x64.msi <IG Server Host Address> <Client Application Access Token>

  5. Deploy the igs-client-x86.msi and igs-client-x64.msi packages via GPO.

     When configuring your GPO policy, ensure that igs-client-x86.msi can only be deployed to 32-bit Windows machines, and igs-client-x64.msi to 64-bit Windows machines.
