Configuring SNMP and Email Alarm Notifications

You can configure the Gateway to send notifications to a specified SNMP management station or email address when alarm conditions occur. This enables administrators to be notified of alarm conditions without having to log on to the Gateway, reducing potential downtime. For example, when an alarm is raised by the Gateway, an email could be sent directly to the system administrator. Or, an SNMP trap could be sent to an SNMP management station, which could in turn be configured to send an SMS text message to the administrator's cellular phone.

You can configure SNMP management stations using the Server Console.

To test SNMP traps to SNMP management stations

  1. Display the System Center Home page.
  2. Click Logs & Alarms, and on the Logs & Alarms page, click the Configuration tab.
  3. In the task panel, click Test SNMP Traps. You will need to independently verify that the test trap has reached the SNMP management station. The UI reports the number of traps successfully sent and to which management stations.

You can specify which alarms generate SNMP notifications on the System Alarms tab.

To configure the email template for alarm notifications

  1. Display the System Center Home page.
  2. Click Logs & Alarms, and on the Logs & Alarms page, click the Configuration tab.
  3. Move the mouse pointer over the Email Alarm Message Template section and click Click here to change these settings.
  4. Specify the sender, recipient, subject and body text to be used in the notification. The subject and body text can be generated dynamically using tokens.
  5. Click Save.

After you have configured the email template, you can specify which alarms generate email notifications on the System Alarms tab.

To enable SNMP and email notifications for alarms

  1. Display the System Center Home page.
  2. Click Logs & Alarms, and on the Logs & Alarms page, click the System Alarms tab.
  3. Click an alarm in the Alarms list to select it.
  4. In the task panel, click Enable email notification or Enable SNMP notification. You can select both to receive both email and SNMP notifications.

If SNMP or email notification is already enabled, follow the above procedure to disable notification. The text in the task panel will read Disable email notification or Disable SNMP notification.

To enable or disable notifications for all alarms, make sure no alarms are selected and click the toggle button at the top of the list. Follow the above procedure.

Before the Gateway can send SNMP or email notifications, you must specify an SNMP management station or email address as appropriate.

If you change any configuration setting other then the system time you must apply the new settings for them to take effect. If the Gateways are configured as a group, changes need to be applied to each Gateway.
