Missing Manager Policy

The Missing Manager Policy uses Manager Relationships to ensure that outbound messages are intercepted if the sender does not include their manager in the list of recipients.

You can configure Missing Manager to:

• Include all users.
• Ignore users with no manager.
• Ignore messages with no attachments.
• Perform disposal actions (What to Do actions) when the conditions are met.

• Using Missing Manager as a content rule

  You can create and apply a Missing Manager content rule to a policy route, enabling you to configure Missing Manager as part of your wider security policy. The Gateway provides a number of content rule templates (including a Missing Manager template) which can be used to configure new content rules. For more information, see Content rule templates.

  If you apply a Missing Manager content rule to a policy route, the settings will not be overridden by enabling the global Missing Manager policy.

How do I...

• Enable Missing Manager?

  1. From the Home page, click Policy > Missing Manager. The Manage Missing Manager Policy page is displayed.
  2. In the Enable Default Missing Manager Policy panel, click Click here to change these settings.

  3. Select the Enable default missing manager checkbox to enable the policy. Clear the checkbox to disable Missing Manager.

  4. Click Save.

     When the policy is enabled, the page displays the following panels:

     • The message is missing a manager when
     • What To Do when missing a manager?

     These panels enable you to configure the way you want the Gateway to apply the Missing Manager policy.

• Exclude users who have no manager information?

  1. Make sure you have enabled Missing Manager Policy.
  2. In The message is missing a manager when, click Click here to change these settings.

  3. Select the checkbox to indicate which users you want to bypass the Missing Manager policy.

     • Does not have a manager
     • Is not in the manager relationships list
  4. Click Save.
• Only detect messages with attachments?

  1. Make sure you have enabled Missing Manager Policy.
  2. In The message is missing a manager, click Click here to change these settings.

  3. Select the checkbox to ensure the policy ignores messages if the sender:

     • Has not included an attachment

  4. Click Save.

     Selecting the Has not included an attachment checkbox ensures that the Missing Manager policy will only operate on messages which are sent with attachments.

• Specify what to do when missing a manager?

  1. From the Home page, click Policy > Missing Manager and make sure you have enabled Missing Manager Policy.
  2. Check that the The message is missing a manager conditions are correct.
  3. In the What to Do when missing a manager section, click Click here to change these settings.

  4. Select a Disposal Action from the menu.

     You can include an additional action such as Send a Copy or Generate an Alert. Click the New button and select a What to Do Action from the list. Use the remove icon to remove actions if necessary.

  5. Click Save.
