Generate an S/MIME or PGP private key

You can use the Email Gateway to generate and self-sign private S/MIME and PGP keys. These keys can be used for signing and encryption in mail encryption endpoints.

How do I...

• Create and self-sign a private S/MIME key

  1. Point to the System tab.
  2. Under Encryption, click Certificate Store.
  3. In the Task panel, click Generate certificate/key.
  4. In the Type list, make sure that S/MIME is selected.
  5. In the Sign With list, select a signing certificate that you have created yourself.
  6. Make sure that the Certificate Authority check box is not selected.

  7. Follow the instructions on screen and make the other selections that you need.

     What do I need to know?

     • Type only ASCII printable characters in the text boxes.

     • There are tooltips for the pink Required text boxes.

       To display the tooltip, move the mouse pointer over the text box.

  8. Click Generate.
  9. Apply the configuration.

• Create a PGP private key

  1. Point to the System tab.
  2. Under Encryption, click Certificate Store.
  3. In the Task panel, click Generate certificate/key.
  4. In the Type list, click PGP.

  5. Follow the instructions on screen and make the other selections that you need.

     What do I need to know?

     • Type only ASCII printable characters in the text boxes.

     • There are tooltips for the pink Required text boxes.

  6. Click Generate.
  7. Apply the configuration.
