Configuring DMARC verification

Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting & Conformance (DMARCClosedDomain-based Message Authentication, Reporting & Conformance) verification enables you to reject or hold inbound messages that fail DMARC checks. When configuring their DMARC settings, domain owners add policies to their domain’s DMARC record in the DNS. These policies advise message recipients what to do if a message fails authentication: either accept, quarantine, or reject the message. The Clearswift Gateway enables you to specify different actions to perform on messages that fail authentication:

To define the action taken for DMARC Reject:

  1. On the Policy Center Home page, click SpamLogic Settings. The SpamLogic Settings page is displayed, showing the Spam Policy tab.
  2. Move the pointer over the Spam Policy section, and click Click here to change these settings.

  3. In the DMARC Reject box, select one of:

    • Disabled
    • Hold in area: Holds messages in the area that you specify in the Hold Spam in this Message Area section. See step 4 in Configuring Spam Policy for more information on specifying message area.

    • Reject message

        Reject message is the default option for DMARC Reject.
    • Add Info & Deliver: Adds the X-msw-integration header to messages and delivers messages.
    • Hold, Add Info & Deliver: Holds messages in the area that you specify in the Hold Spam in this Message Area section (see step 4 in Configuring Spam Policy for more information on specifying message area), adds the X-msw-integration header to messages, and delivers messages.
  4. Click Save.

To define the action taken for DMARC Quarantine:

  1. On the Policy Center Home page, click SpamLogic Settings. The SpamLogic Settings page appears, displaying the Spam Policy tab.
  2. Move the pointer over the Spam Policy section, and click Click here to change these settings.

  3. In the DMARC Quarantine box, select one of:

    • Disabled

    • Hold in area: Holds messages in the area that you specify in the Hold Spam in this Message Area section. See step 4 in Configuring Spam Policy for more information on specifying message area.

        Hold in area is the default option for DMARC Quarantine.
    • Add Info & Deliver: Adds the X-msw-integration header to messages and delivers messages.
    • Hold, Add Info & Deliver: Holds messages in the area that you specify in the Hold Spam in this Message Area section (see step 4 in Configuring Spam Policy for more information on specifying message area), adds the X-msw-integration header to messages, and delivers messages.
  4. Click Save.
