Adding a Quota Bypass

When calculating browsing time, any client applications that make URL requests on behalf of the user, such as a task bar plug-in to check for new web mail, will use up the browse time quota for that user. If there are particular web requests that should be excluded from the browse time calculations which can be identified by HTTP header or URL then these can be excluded from the calculations by creating quota bypasses.

To add a HTTP Header Bypass:

  1. From the Policy Center Home page, click Web Policy Routes. The Manage Policy Routes page appears.
  2. Click the Quota Bypass tab. The Quota Bypass page displays a list of the quota bypasses you have already established.
  3. Move the mouse pointer over the HTTP Header Bypass area and click New. The Add HTTP Header Bypass dialog appears.
  4. In the Header field, type the HTTP header you want to bypass.
  5. In the Value field, type a matching header value.

The HTTP Header Bypass will be triggered if the Header field contains the substring that you specify in the Value field. Wildcard characters are not supported in the Value field. Both the Header and Value fields are not case-sensitive.

  1. Click Add to save changes.

To add a Bypass by URL:

  1. From the Policy Center Home page, click Web Policy Routes. The Manage Policy Routes page appears.
  2. Click the Quota Bypass tab. The Quota Bypass page displays a list of the quota bypasses you have already established.
  3. Move the mouse pointer over the Bypass by URL area and click New. The Add URL dialog appears.
  4. In the URL field, type the URL of the site you want to bypass. You can use Closedwildcard characters in the substring of the URL to indicate a range of pages or sub-domains. URL value is not case-sensitive.

    Wildcard characters

Use * to represent 0 or more characters.

  5. Click Add to save changes.
  6. Apply the configuration.

RSS feeds will be included in the Browsing Time Quota which can result in the quota being used without browsing because the RSS reader checks the subscribed feeds regularly for new material. To exclude RSS feeds, you will need to add the URL of each RSS server to the URL Bypass list.

When you have finished modifying your content security policy you must apply the configuration for any changes to take effect.
