Monitor and manage your Gateway

There are a number of tools available within your Web Gateway that allow you to monitor and, in some cases, manage system and proxy connection processes. You can:

• Get a single page overview of how your system is performing
• Monitor system alarms that provide notifications of conditions requiring attention
• View and examine logs to help when investigating events or problems
• Examine recent text analysis that has been performed during lexical analysis to determine why content has been blocked
• View, stop, and start services
• Monitor proxies and their engines and restart them as appropriate.

• The system overview information available to me

  Information regarding the general state of your system's health can be found by clicking the Health tab from the system Home page. For detailed information on what this page displays and its configuration options, see the System Health Page topic.

• System alarms

  Alarms are raised by Gateway components that monitor the state of the system. Their purpose is to flag conditions that the systems administrator should be aware of. Alarms range from indications that a new upgrade is available, warnings that there is a problem with the system such as low disk space, to warnings about hardware problems such as disk failure.

• Monitoring and managing proxies and proxy engines

  You can report, monitor, and manage proxy performance by using a number of proxy monitoring and management features. See the Monitoring and Managing Proxy Performance topic.

• Monitoring and managing the ICAP server

  You can report, monitor, and manage the performance of your ICAP server using a number of monitoring and management features. See the Monitoring and Managing ICAP Server Performance topic.

How do I...

• Monitor System Alarms?

  From the Gateway home page click the System tab > Logs & Alarms and then select the System Alarms tab.

  From the Gateway home page click the System tab > Logs & Alarms and then select the System Logs tab.

  Services can be managed from the Service Control page. From the Gateway home page click the System tab > Service Control.
