Configuring Transaction Logging

The Transaction Logging page enables you to configure transaction logging and define how logs are exported from the Clearswift Gateway to a user-defined FTP server.

How do I...

• Enable or disable transaction logging?

  1. From the System Center, click Proxy Settings > Transaction Logging. The Transaction Logging page is displayed, indicating the current status of Transaction Logging as either:

     • Transaction Log is Enabled
     • Transaction Log is Disabled
  2. In the Transaction Log area, click Click here to change these settings.
  3. Select or clear Enable transaction logging.

  4. If required, select Export the transaction logs every day at and select a time from the drop-down menu. This schedules a daily export to your FTP server.

     It is not possible to export transaction logs manually while an export is already in progress. If you are considering a scheduled export, select a time of day that avoids this possibility.

  5. Click Save.

• Configure an FTP server for exporting transaction logs?

  1. From the System Center, click Proxy Settings > Transaction Logging.
  2. In the FTP Settings area, click Click here to change these settings.

  3. Enter the details of the FTP server on which transaction logs will be stored.

     Setting	Description
     Server type	Type of connection: FTP, FTPS (implicit), FTPS (explicit) or SFTP.
     FTP Server	The fully qualified domain name or IP address of the FTP server.
     Port	The port connecting the Gateway to the FTP server. Firewall Ports for a list of default ports.
     User name	Logon credentials for the FTP server.
     Password	Logon credentials for the FTP server.
     Remote folder	The folder in which transaction log files will be stored. This folder is created automatically during the export process if it is not found on the server.

     If you change any of the FTP settings, you must also re-enter the Password to save the changes.

  4. Click Save.

     If you are using a multi-level folder structure, you should specify the path using forward-slash character (/).

• Test my FTP connection?

  1. From the System Center, click Proxy Settings > Transaction Logging.

  2. In the task panel, click Test FTP settings. The Gateway performs the test and verifies the connection.

     Ensure your FTP server and Port have been configured correctly and that your User name/Password combination is correct.

  3. Click Close.

• Export transaction logs?

  You can schedule the Gateway to export transaction logs automatically each day. You can also export transaction logs manually (provided the daily export is not in progress).

  1. From the System Center, click Proxy Settings > Transaction Logging.
  2. In the task panel, click Export transaction logs now. This starts the export process, displaying a status dialog box.

  3. When complete, click Close.

     The current state of the transaction log export is shown at the top of the page.
