Anti-Virus Scanners

Clearswift Gateway supports up to three licensed anti-virus scanners for use in enforcing content security policy.

Provided you have the correct license features for each product, you can apply any combination of the following scanners:

Sophos Anti-Virus

Avira Anti-Virus

Kaspersky Anti-Virus

License information, including all supplementary license features installed in Clearswift Gateway is displayed on the View License page.

You can also configure your anti-virus scanners to apply:

Heuristic scanning (Sophos or Kaspersky)

Heuristic scanning uses an analysis of potential threats to calculate the susceptibility of an attack. Heuristic anti-virus scanning can detect previously unknown viruses, as well as variants of existing viruses that are already known.

Which configurations are applied by default?

Clearswift SECURE Email Gateway applies the following scan options, provided you have the correct license features for each product:

Heuristic Scanning		not configurable
Behavioral Scanning		not configurable
Cloud Lookup		not enabled by default

Behavioral scanning includes Heuristic analysis on a Kaspersky Labs Anti-Virus scanner. You cannot enable Behavioral scanning without Heuristic scanning.

However, you can enable Heuristic scanning without selecting the Behavioral scanning option.

How do I...

Enabled scanners apply to connected peers of the same type, and will be used on all policy routes involving the Detect Virus content rule. 'Enabled Scanners' is a system setting defined by your selection.

Applying anti-virus scanners simultaneously might have an impact on the performance of the Gateway.

The virus counters measure the number of individual threats encountered by each scanner, rather than the number of messages affected. For more detailed information about affected messages, see Message Tracking or view the System Health page.
