MTA Groups are collections of servers that can help you to manage email routing within your network. You can use MTA Groups to apply failover, or load-balancing between the servers (hosts) in the group, to ensure that mail traffic continues to be routed without interruption.
Click System > SMTP Settings > Mail Domains and Routing. Select the MTA Groups tab. |
The MTA Group table displays which groups are currently supporting Failover and Load Balancing. You can add hosts to each MTA Group and use their Priority to determine how email routing will operate.
You can assign a failover Priority to a host inside an MTA Group. This indicates the order in which you would like email traffic to be routed through each host in the group. For example, servers with a priority of 1 will be used before servers with a priority of 2.
If the hosts in an MTA Group are given equal priority, those servers are considered to be Load balancing. This means that email traffic will be handled equally between them.
If the hosts in an MTA Group are given different priorities, the MTA Group will apply Failover in priority order. This means that email traffic will be handled sequentially by the servers in the group, using the lowest Priority numbers first.
You can add servers to an MTA Group to configure both failover and load balancing. ![]() |
