Troubleshooting a Connection

If a connectivity test fails, check the possible causes below:

Real-time IP Blocklist test

The Real-time IP Blocklist functionality relies on a working DNS configuration.

Bulk Email Detection test

Bulk Email Detection relies on a working DNS configuration.

SpamLogic Signatures test

SpamLogic Signatures relies on a working DNS configuration.

HTTP test

The Gateway requires that firewalls allow HTTP and HTTPS traffic outbound to the applianceupdate.clearswift.com address. Check the settings for any company firewalls between the Gateway and the Internet to ensure that this traffic is allowed.

Check that the HTTP proxy settings are correct. See Managing HTTP Proxy Settings for more information.

Check the configuration of any static routes that have been configured. See Network configuration for more information.

SMTP & Relay To test

Check that you entered the correct IP address and port number for the SMTP servers. See Specifying Routing of Email for more information.

Check that your SMTP servers are running.

Check the settings on your company firewall between the Gateway and the SMTP servers. Firewalls must allow SMTP traffic from the Gateway to the SMTP server on the defined port number.

Check if the SMTP server has been configured to block SMTP connections from the IP address of the Gateway. This will cause the test to fail.

Check the configuration of any static routes that have been configured. See Network configuration for more information.

Backup test

Check that you have configured the correct details for the FTP server. See Backing up the System for more information.

Check the settings on your company firewall between the Gateway and the FTP server. Firewalls must allow SMTP traffic from the Gateway to the FTP server on the defined port number. See Firewall Ports for more information.

Check the configuration of any static routes that have been configured. See Network configuration for more information.

Peer Gateways and Time Policy Replication tests

Check that you have configured the correct IP addresses for the Peer Gateways. See Editing a Peer Gateway for more information.
Check that the Peer Gateways are running. See the Peer Status tab section of the System Health Page.
If you use restricted access to Gateways, check that access is allowed for the other Gateways in the peer group. See Configuring User Interface Access Control for more information.
Check the settings on your company firewall between the Gateway and other Peer Gateways in the group. Firewalls must allow HTTPS traffic between Peer Gateways.
Check the configuration of any static routes that have been configured. See Network configuration for more information.
