Creating a Disposal Action

References to Web policy content are only available when a Web Gateway is included in the peer group.

You can create a new disposal action to do either of the following:

To create a disposal action:

  1. From the Policy Center Home page, click Disposal Actions. The Manage Disposal Actions page appears, listing the currently defined disposal actions.
  2. Select the tab for the type of disposal action to create:

    • Select Message Areas to create a disposal action that writes detected messages to a message area.
    • Select Relay Servers to create a disposal action that relays detected messages to an SMTP server that you define.
  3. Click the New button.
  4. If you are adding a new Message Areas disposal action, the Add Message Area dialog appears:

    • Specify a name for the new message area and the expiry period after which Clearswift Gateway is to delete a held message.
    • To enable the message area for use with PMM, click the PMM tab, and select one or more Address Lists of users who will be able to delete or release their messages from the message area. For more information, see Enabling Message Areas for PMM Access.
    • See Defining a release schedule below for information on setting up scheduled release of messages.
    • See Notifying Sender on Release for information about configuring the notification of a sender when a message is released.
    • See Notifying Auditor on Release for information about configuring the notification of an auditor when a message is released.
  5. If you are adding a new Relay Servers disposal action, the Add Relay Server dialog appears and you need to specify:

    • The name of the relay server.
    • The port number to which to relay detected messages.
    • An alias for the server if required. This is shown as the relay server name when selecting disposal actions to apply to content rules.
    • Select the Relay Mode and Relay Type.
  6. Click Add to add the new disposal action to the list.

  • To use a disposal action you must associate it with one or more content rules or policy routes. You can associate up to two disposal actions with a content rule.
  • When you have finished modifying your content security policy you must apply the configuration for any changes to take effect. If the Gateways are configured as a group, any group changes should be applied to each Gateway.

If you release a message, the Gateway honors the primary and secondary Relay to or Deliver disposal actions of the next triggered rule (or those of the route default) where applicable.
